I know a lot of you have seen the Cabin on the east end of Lodgepole lake, this was not the Hathenbruck and Rhoades Cabin, the cabin at Lodgepole had a metal roof and the door was on the north side,,
This cabin had a dirt-roof with a pine tree growing on top of it and the door faced South.. this cabin was blown up in the early 70's by the BLM.......

FOOTPRINTS IN THE WILDERNESS
Mr Hathenbuck just in from the
Unitah Indian Reservation in the northeast portion of Utah, where the Herald readers will know he is
interested in the resurvation and rehabilitation of the famous Old Caleb Rhoades gold mine, concerning which
so much has been written and said during the past few years.
The Rhoades mine is accounted
as being one of the richest propositions in the state of Utah, and while the reports regarding it fabulous
wealth have probably been added to with each succeeding year, there is no doubt but that it is a bonanza, and
better than a Klondike, at least Mr. Hathenbruck thinks so, and he is straining every nerve to acquire a
foothold in this ancient producer of the precious metals, for its exact location, although clothed in mystery
for many years, is now known...
.
A Herald
representative had a pleasant interview with Mr Hathenbruck yesterday …According to Mr. Hathenbruck ,The
Ledge is wll defined, and the pay streak is from three inches to three feet-in width.
There is what we call barren
rock in the ledge but even this ‘assays-35 ounces in silver and $4 In gold, while the pay streak goes as
High is $150,000 in gold and silver to the ton, the gold contents of the mineral Predominating“ Mr.
Hathenbruck then got his grip and showed the Herald man a number of samples of ore from the mine and they were
magnificent, the mineral being almost """"Solid
Tellurium, """"and was covered and streaked through and through with wire
silver and gold that was beautiful to look at. Mr. Hathenbruck also stated that the Caleb Rhoades ledge was
full of just such mineral as this, and he produced an assay certificate showing the results obtained from half
an ounce of ore, the values of which were 1,800 ounces of silver and $17,000 in gold to the ton.
As has already been stated, Mr.
Hathenbruck has succeeded in obtaining permission from the Indians to work the old Caleb Rhoades mine, out
before he can strike a pick in the development of the property or still ship a
pound of ore he will be obliged
to also secure permission of the to mine there, and it is this that has brought him to Salt as with his
associates, he has made application to the depart- of the interior for a Grant Of Four Miles Square in
the desired locally
and if he is successful he will inaugurate a
mining enterprise on a gigantic scale.
Even though the newspapers had
printed the story for the whole country to read, it was a rare occasion indeed when Caleb Rhoades ever broke
down and openly discussed his gold mines with anyone. Even his loyal wife, Sidsie, knew little enough about
it, except that he had one and that it was located somewhere on the Indian reservation. And, those to whom
Caleb did confide in were few and far between; these being, at first, Enock and John Rhoades (his
half-brothers), John A. Powell (his most trusted friend), the Horsley brothers (one a friend, the other his
bishop), and F.W.C. Hathenbruck (his partner).
To Enock Rhoades, Caleb gave
directions to the location of an old, but fabulously rich, Spanish gold mine which lay dormant nearly 60 miles
west, southwest of the sacred Ute Gold. Unfortunately, that bit of information had resulted in Enock’s
violent death in 1884, causing Caleb to wonder
